MALVERN — Philip Allan Tate,

age 75 of Malvern, Ark., died Monday, October 18, 2021, in Altamonte Springs, Fla., after a brief illness. He was born in Malvern, Ark., on March 31, 1946, to the late J. Cecil Tate and Eunice Swafford Tate.

He graduated from Malvern High School and went on to graduate from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Philip was an ROTC cadet at the University and upon graduation became a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, serving in Taiwan as an OSI Agent. Upon his discharge from the military, he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and graduated with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Philip was employed by the Veterans Administration in Orlando, Fla. until his retirement.

He is survived by his brother, John C. Tate, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia; nephews, John Allan Tate and his wife, Paige, Tyler Tate, and Baron Tate; and great-nephews, Jaxon and Bryant Tate; and numerous cousins.

Philip was also preceded in death by his niece, Andrea Tate.

Graveside services will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery at 11 o’clock on Saturday morning, October 23, 2021, under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent via jafunkfuneralhome.com.
