Wednesday, Dec. 8 First Trinity to give away food

First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Catalpa St., will give away food from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in a a drive thru event. Food will be given on a first come-first served basis until all food is distributed. All participants are encouraged to remain in their vehicles while their food box is loaded, according to a news release. The monthly food event was changed from the first Wednesday to the second Wednesday for December only. Details: First Trinity, (870) 534-2873.

Outreach distribution center opens

The Hurricane Hype Center, the 501(c)3 branch of New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church, will open the Hurricane Outreach Distribution Center at 3319 S. Ohio. A ribbon cutting and walk-through will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The new 1,200-square-foot outreach center will offer food and various commodities to residents of Jefferson County and surrounding areas, according to a news release.

The Generator sets seminar

Pine Bluff business owners are invited to a workshop on the Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Certification program from noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Generator, 435 S. Main St. Participants will hear how to increase the opportunity for minority or women-owned businesses to sell products or services to the state of Arkansas, according to the Generator’s Facebook page. The Generator welcomes Arkansas Economic Development Commission Minority and Women-Owned Business Division and Arkansas PTAC (Procurement Technical Assistance Center) for the workshop. Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 8 Library holds events

The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Main Library, 600 S. Main St., plans events including: Youth events after school Dec. 14: S.T.E.A.M. - Binary Code Necklace or Bracelet, a computer science lesson and craft activity. Events are set for ages 5-10 from 4-50 p.m. Wednesdays: Dec. 8: Crafts: Tie-Dye Tile Coasters — Youth can make tie-dye tile coasters as gifts. Dec. 15: Perler Bead Art Create — a keychain or magnet of a favorite book, movie, or TV show character using Perler beads can be created. For adults, a Quilting Bee is planned for Friday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.m. - noon. BookEnds Book Club will be held Friday, Dec. 17, from 1-2 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 9 Proposed ward changes to be reviewed

Mayor Shirley Washington’s office will conduct a public review of the proposed changes to the city of Pine Bluff’s wards. A public review will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m., with a special called meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m., both Thursday at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. All citizens are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about the process, the impact of the proposed changes and to provide feedback. The re-drawing of the municipal ward boundary lines results from the reduction in city population according to the 2020 Census data. The mayor’s office will facilitate the public review of the proposed changes, according to a news release.

Stuttgart rice station hosts meeting

The Arkansas County Extension Office will host an in-person and virtual meeting featuring updates on row rice production and soil fertility Dec. 9 at the Rice Research and Extension Center at Stuttgart to help growers plan for 2022. Registration for in-person attendees opens at 8 a.m. The meeting will also be live streamed via Zoom with a recording

911/MECA boards to meet

Two meetings will be held to discuss the 2022 MECA (Metropolitan Emergency Communication Association) Budget Dec. 9 at the Jefferson County Courthouse, according to a news release. The 911 Administrative Board Meeting will be held at 9:45 a.m. in the quorum court room. The MECA Board Meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the Jefferson County EOC (Emergency Operations Center.) NAACP plans annual meeting

The Pine Bluff NAACP Branch will hold its annual membership meeting via Zoom at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9. The keynote speaker will be James Gallman, administrator for the Arkansas State NAACP Conference and a member of the NAACP National Board of Directors, according to a news release. Officers and committee chairs will present their annual reports and members will vote on candidates for the national board. Participants may email pbnaacp@yahoo.com for the Zoom link.
