House panel investigating Cawthorn
WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn is now under investigation by the House Committee on Ethics over two questions: whether he engaged in insider trading and whether he had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer, his scheduler, who also is his second cousin.
The committee declined to investigate Cawthorn, R-N.C., over the charges against him of driving while his license was revoked and speeding.
News of the investigations came Monday in news releases from the Democratic chairperson and top Republican on the ethics committee.
Cawthorn lost last week’s Republican primary in his North Carolina district to state Sen. Chuck Edwards, making this his last year in Congress.
