UA’s Rice falls at NCAAs

University of Arkansas senior Tatum Rice lost to Oklahoma’s Carmen Corley 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament on Monday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill.

Rice, making her first appearance at the NCAAs, took an early lead, claiming back-to-back games in the first set. But Corely battled back to take the next three and the lead.

Corley won the first set 6-4 and took the first four games of the second set before fending off a Tatum comeback to claim the second set 6-2 and the match win.

The Hot Springs native was named first-team All-SEC and ends the year with a 16-16 overall record.
