A U.S. magistrate judge is a judicial officer of a district court and is appointed by majority vote of the court’s district judges. A story in Wednesday’s editions mistakenly stated that Bruce Reinhart, the U.S. magistrate judge for the Southern District of Florida who signed the search warrant authorizing federal law enforcement to search Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, was appointed by the former president in 2018.
