10% Saban

Former Nick Saban assistants or analysts are head coaches at 13 of the 130 FBS schools other than Alabama, meaning his coaching tree comprises 10% of the population of FBS head coaches.

That list: Curt Cignetti at James Madison, Mario Cristobal at Miami, Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M, Charles Huff at Marshall, Butch Jones at Arkansas State, Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, Mike Locksley at Maryland, Jim McElwain at Central Michigan, Billy Napier at Florida, Steve Sarkisian at Texas, Kirby Smart at Georgia, Mel Tucker at Michigan State, and Brent Key at Georgia Tech, an interim who replaced another former Saban assistant, Geoff Collins.

Oregon Coach Dan Lanning was a graduate assistant coach for Saban during the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff championship run in 2015.
