ORLANDO, Fla. — Doris Mitchell Lisemby

completed her assigned work on earth and passed from this life on Jan. 20, 2023 at Advent Health Celebration Hospital in Celebration, Fla. Doris was born on June 19, 1918 near Kingsland, Arkansas and was the eldest of ten children born to Wallace E. and Jewell Graves Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray Lisemby, daughter Carole Lisemby, brothers Arnold Mitchell and Roy Mitchell, sisters, Helen Goggans, Kathleen Ferguson, Gwen Douglass, Lavern Rotton, Polly Mitchell and Wanda Newton. She is survived by her sons Doug Lisemby (Uyen) and Greg Lisemby (Tama), granddaughters Marie Lisemby and Lauren Lisemby, and many nieces and nephews. Doris was a graduate of Kingsland High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at Henderson State Teacher’s college in Arkadelphia, Ark. She then served as a public school teacher in Arkansas and Texas for 32 years. Doris also earned a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and spent close to two decades of her teaching career practicing as a speech, language and hearing therapist for the Deer Park Independent School District in Deer Park, Tex. After retiring, Doris and her family moved to Arkadelphia, Ark. While living in Arkadelphia, Doris was a member of Second Baptist Church, a member of the Mission Service Corps and Director of Church and Community Ministries of the Red River Baptist Association. In 2007, Doris left Arkansas for the tropical climate of Central Florida and became a resident of Orlando and an active member of the First Baptist Church Windemere. In her latter years, Doris developed a love for the written word, authored numerous newspaper articles, penned scores of poems and self-published over 30 books. A visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 1-2 p.m. at the Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, Ark. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 2 p.m., and burial will be at Crossroads Cemetery in the Crossroad community just north of Kingsland.
