LARRY DEAN WHITEHEAD,

77, of Sherwood passed away from Covid pneumonia on January 19, 2023. He was born in Augusta, Ark., on August 22, 1945, to the

late George Clifton Whitehead and Mary Josephine O’Shields Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy and Billy Joe.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Holder Whitehead, his daughter, Amanda Whitehead Hemphill (Darick) of Springfield, Mo., grandchildren, Harrison, Jackson and Bayta Hemphill of Springfield, his sister Carol Garner (Cecil) of Bella Vista, Ark., and Vera Stallings of Highlands, Texas, and many wonderful in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

Larry was a Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam crisis, serving in Okinawa, Japan. Later he retired from Union Pacific Railroad after faithfully serving for 34 years. He was associated with ESA which is a service organization that helps raise funds for St Jude Children’s Hospital, which saved his grandson Jackson’s life.

No service is planned at this time. A drop-in Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the family home in Sherwood from 2-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
