JONESBORO — John Raymond Reed

passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at the hospice house in Jonesboro, Ark.

He was born in Dabney, Ark., of William Edgar Reed and Rose Pearl Miller Reed.

He had resided in Jonesboro for 6-7 years, with the last year living with his daughter Brenda. Before that he lived in North Little Rock. He retired from Campbell 66 Express as a truck driver. John and his wife, Theda, also owned Reed’s Community Cash Grocery on Crystal Hill Road.

After retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on lawnmowers. He was a member and deacon of Crystal Valley Baptist Church in North Little Rock. When he moved to Jonesboro, he joined Windover Baptist Church where he loved greeting members and visitors at the door, handing out church bulletins and his soft peppermint candy that he always had. He especially loved giving the candy to the little ones.

John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Theda Naydean Dunn Reed; daughter, Diane Faye Reed; and son, Raymond Glen Reed.

He is survived by his daughters, Annette Gagliano and Brenda Billman; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023, at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home, with service to begin at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Edgewood Memorial Park.
