LINDA “KAY” ISON,

74, friend to the friendless and taco maker extraordinaire, passed from this life on January 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, Clint A. Dorris, and mother, Martha E. Dorris. She is survived by her sister, Doris Moats Jones, and brother, Budd Dorris (Karen), children, Lisa (Sam) Coulter, Mark (Amber) Ison and Allison Phillips (Andrew), her seven grandchildren: Daniel, Tanner, Hunter, Journie, Avery, Ava and Gabe; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. They could do no wrong in her eyes.

Kay loved church, music, good food and close friends. But all of those wonderful things paled next to her love of her babies, from the grown ones to the toddler… as evidenced by the oft-featured photo albums. There just wasn’t much else to talk about besides “the kids”.

After dementia robbed us of our biggest cheerleader, the void was deeply felt. Because of her, all of us grew up believing we could do or be anything we wanted. She truly believed she had the best, smartest, funniest, handsomest kids and grandkids on the planet. What a legacy… to convince a child they should never settle – because they were worth it. We are all immensely grateful she was in our corner.

The children wish to thank the staff of Sherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation and the team at AR Hospice for their compassionate care of their mom during the last phase of her life.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27th from 6-8 p.m., at Smith NLR Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., NLR. A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 28th at First Pentecostal Church in NLR. She will be laid to rest at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
