In 1956, Sinatra was selling out the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas and had recorded new albums with six million copies sold. Was the crooner (who was married to Ava Gardner) happy? He really didn’t want to talk about that: “I am what I am,” he told Parade defiantly. “The time you start talkin’ to yourself is when you’re unhappy, when you wanna change. I don’t wanna change.” Happy or not, Sinatra won nine Grammys and was nominated 31 times.
