JOE STRINGER MOUROT,

93, died March 19, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Louise Gray Mourot.

Born in Morrilton on April 19, 1929, to Joe and Sadie Mourot, he was the youngest of eight children. He grew up on the family farm in Toltec,, Ark. Mourot served in the U.S. military until honorably discharged in July 1949 to run the family farm. He owned several insurance companies before buying the eyeglass laboratory Oden Optical in 1971. The company became River City Optics, which he managed until his first retirement.

After the optical business, Joe became a manufactured home dealer and developed a subdivision near Toltec. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and tinkering at his farm.

He is survived by his son, Jon Etienne Mourot and husband Kyle Boswell; son, Randy Mourot and wife Karen Mourot; grandchildren, McKenzie Murphy and husband Patrick Murphy, Jack Mourot, Anderson Mourot, and Margaux Mourot; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Murphy, Sutton Murphy, and Sullivan Murphy. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Weise; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
