UALR 4-9, LINDENWOOD 3-3

After rain delayed the start of Ohio Valley Conference play for the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, the Trojans swept a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

UALR (12-8, 2-0 Ohio Valley) scored twice in the second, the second run coming on Ty Rhoades’ RBI single up the middle, and staked pitcher Jackson Wells to a 2-0 lead. But Lindenwood (320, 0-2) scored lone runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie it.

Rhoades then reached base on an error to score Alex Seguine, and Jake Wright’s single brought home Rhoades, allowing the Trojans to retake a 4-2 lead. Austin Stubber, who relieved Wells with two outs in the top of the seventh, closed out the final 21/3 innings, setting down all three batters in the ninth.

UALR then pounded its way to a rout in Game 2. The Trojans scored four runs in the third on three RBI singles and a fielder’s choice, then got RBI singles in the fourth and sixth to lead 6-0, never letting Lindenwood get closer than five.

Eight UALR players combined for 13 hits, led by center fielder Tyler Williams, who went 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
